Ode To Kodo
Winter 2022
Kodo is the Japanese art of appreciating incense. This series was hand-carved with the intention of creating space for the age-old practice of purifying mind, body & spirit with fragrant aromas. These sculptures double as incense burners and serve as a stage, a home- an altar upon which scents can be shared and experienced.
All pieces in this collection are one-of-a-kind. This body of work that examines the world of bygone rituals and the tools that go with it. In a world where everything does everything all the time- watches that play videos of cats, cars that talk at you in strange accents- this is a series of objects made for one thing: to burn. They are sculptures, they are incense burners, they are just a pile of rocks drowned in thoughts about things that smell good when they’re on fire.
Materials: Limestone, Travertine, Serpentinite & Marble
